Empowering Communities: Embracing the Spirit of Giving

No doubt this summer was hot, but for Lopito, Ileana & Howie it included a particularly cool moment. Yet one which also warms our hearts. On June 29, our friends and partners at United Way honored us with the important Rafael Fábregas Award, which is conferred every year to a person or entity which, as a volunteer for United Way, has done outstanding work to serve and visibilize Puerto Rico’s marginalized and troubled sectors. We thank United Way and their team, Manuel Sánchez, Samuel González and Jaime Bahamundi, for their enthusiastic trust, and for providing us with the inspiration to craft the 2023 campaign titled “Un poquito de ti.”

One of United Way’s core beliefs is that, as Ghandi said, one should “be the change one wants to see in the world.” In other words, anybody can pitch in, and when each person contributes talents and resources, no matter how small they may seem, significant change can be achieved. True to this vision, the campaign message focuses on an animated story where a young girl collects small gifts of love which are then transformed into help and hope for communities in need. Thus, positive transformation is possible.

At Lopito, we believe in the power of transformation. We have experienced it ourselves, as we have grown, from a small creative workshop in 1972, to a top digital agency and, more importantly, a large, extended family. Also, we’ve seen how partnering with non-profit entities such as United Way has been an integral part of our development, keeping us sensitive to the great responsibility we have as members of the business sector to give back.

Throughout the years —from the very beginning, in fact— we’ve had the great fortune to work alongside some of Puerto Rico’s most dynamic and relevant non-profits. We have created advertising campaigns and provided media, promotional, and public relations support for entities such as the Puerto Rico Diabetes Association, AAMSCA (formerly the Alianza para un Puerto Rico Sin Drogas), the American Cancer Society, Fundación CAP, Fundación Sila M. Calderón, and SER de Puerto Rico, among many others.

As a creative company we have also joined efforts with various art and education initiatives, such as El Festival de la Palabra, and, for five decades now, Opera de Puerto Rico, of which Howie, one of our founding partners, is also a founding board member.  In addition, since 2003 we have financed the Fondo Lopito, a program of scholarships for promising high school art students.

We are proud to work alongside such an influential and game-changing entity as United Way, and hope we continue to do so for many years to come. Finally, we’d like to give a shout-out to the team that helped make the campaign “un poquito de ti” a success:  Jorge Tous, Edgardo Cartagena, Lilliana Pérez, Yashira Torres, Verónica Estrada, Carmen Rivera, and Jescel Rolón.
Congratulation to all!
